@maisiecoughlanstudio Maisie Coughlan is an artist whose practice explores how meat is used both physically and symbolically to examine care, responsibility, and constructions of femininity. Working with both organic and fabricated flesh, they use acts of repair to question how bodies are handled and maintained. 

Their work centres on the tension between disgust and tenderness, pairing visceral materials with gentle gestures and delicate language. They investigate what occurs when the body is displaced - how it shifts from subject to object, from a living form to consumable project by focusing on concepts of abjection.

Acts of repairing and inevitable failure are the focus of recent work. These actions highlight generational and gendered labour, such as sewing and fixing, as inherited expectations placed upon women. The body becomes a site that carries history, where care is both forced and embodied.

The work also focuses on similarities between women and animals within patriarchal structures, where both are objectified and consumed. Through this, it exposes shared conditions of exploitation, revealing how care and harm can exist simultaneously.
